Emerging diseases of animals and humans have highlighted the threat from changing environmental, ecological, social and agricultural conditions. Dr. Christine Thuranira-McKeever, Director of Distance Learning at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), speaks to Professor Dirk Pfeiffer, Course Director for the MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health, about why we need a One Health approach to deal with these emerging disease risks, experiences in tackling avian influenza in South East Asia, and why it is important for students to learn about this approach. One Health is now one of the subject areas covered in the module on Veterinary Public Health, a core module of the programme in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health, offered by distance learning through the University of London International Programmes, with academic direction from RVC. The Veterinary Public Health module can also be studied as an individual module for professional development, and as an optional module on the MSc in Livestock Health and Production.
